TRULUVE was the license plate my grandma had on her car my entire life; it was the title of my grandparents’ wedding song. You knew my grandma had arrived because the plates made her car one-of-a-kind.
She passed away in May 2021, and when I was cleaning out her house, I found an old drawing I made for her as a kid that read “I Love You” in the handwriting that is now on the TRULUVE clothing.
The bear on the merch is just as meaningful, but instead, the story is about my grandpa. He got me a stuffed bear when I was a kid — the same one I have tattooed — that I named Pink Bear. I went everywhere with that bear, very attached, until I left it in a hotel bed and it was swept away with the sheets.
I called my grandpa crying to tell him I lost the bear, and he told me we would find a new one when my family and I returned from our trip. That was the last time I spoke to my grandpa; he passed away while we were on our way home.
TRULUVE and the designs in the collection are dedicated to my grandma and grandpa, two of the best people I knew! I am so excited to share this line, with designs by Ema Gasper, that I’ve worked so hard to create. Can’t wait to see you wearing these pieces!
